Bengaluru Techie Suicide: Wife, In-Laws Accused of Harassment and Extortion
Bengaluru: Atul Subash (34), a senior executive at a private firm, was found dead in his residence in the Marathahalli area of Bengaluru on Saturday, December 9. The incident has sparked allegations of harassment and extortion against his wife and her family, police said on Tuesday.
The Hoysala Police control room received a complaint at 6 am about Subash’s death. Upon arriving at his third-floor apartment, police found the house locked from the inside. Locals helped break the door, only to discover that Subash had died by suicide, a police statement revealed.
According to authorities, Subash’s death note and statements from his family suggest he had been subjected to relentless harassment. A 24-page death note left behind by Subash alleged that his wife, along with her mother, brother, and uncle, had filed false cases against him and demanded ₹3 crore for a settlement.
“The deceased's brother, Bikas Kumar, informed police that these false cases caused severe mental stress, leading to his tragic decision,” a statement read. Subash also shared his death note via email and in a WhatsApp group associated with an NGO he was involved with, highlighting his struggle for justice.
Police found a placard at Subash’s residence with the words "Justice is due" written on it, underscoring his unresolved grievances. Initial investigations revealed that he had been embroiled in a bitter marital dispute. His wife is also facing a case registered in Uttar Pradesh, adding to the complexity of their ongoing conflict.
Subash’s family in Uttar Pradesh was informed of his demise, and a case has been registered under Section 108 3(5) of BNS. The police have launched a detailed investigation to uncover further details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The incident has raised questions about the alleged misuse of legal provisions in marital disputes and the mental health toll of prolonged legal battles. Subash’s death serves as a grim reminder of the need for timely intervention and fair resolution in such cases.
Further developments in the case are awaited as officials probe the claims made in Subash’s death note and investigate the role of his wife and her family in the alleged harassment.
