Urvil Patel Smashes Record-Breaking Fastest T20 Century by an Indian

Urvil Patel Breaks Records with 28-Ball Century in SMAT, Fastest T20 Ton by an Indian

Exactly a year after smashing the second-fastest 50-over century by an Indian, Gujarat opener Urvil Patel achieved another milestone with a blistering 28-ball century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) against Tripura in Indore.

This incredible feat marks the fastest T20 century by an Indian, surpassing Rishabh Pant's 32-ball century from 2018, and is the second-fastest overall in T20 history, just behind Estonia's Sahil Chauhan, who hit a 27-ball ton earlier this year.

Urvil Patel Smashes Fastest T20 Century by an Indian, Leads Gujarat to Dominant Win in SMAT

A year after breaking records in the 50-over format, Gujarat opener Urvil Patel delivered a stunning performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), smashing an unbeaten 113 off just 35 balls to chase down Tripura's 156-run target in just 10.2 overs in Indore. Urvil's 28-ball century is now the fastest by an Indian in T20s and the second-fastest globally, behind Estonia's Sahil Chauhan, who reached three figures in 27 balls earlier this year.

The electrifying knock included seven fours and 12 massive sixes, showcasing Urvil's all-round hitting ability. His sixes were scattered all over the field: three over the covers, three down the ground, four over midwicket, and one over square leg. Tripura's bowlers bore the brunt of his onslaught, with captain Mandeep Singh conceding 24 runs in five balls, while Abhijit Sarkar, Sankar Paul, and Manisankar Murasingh all suffered heavy punishment.

This remarkable innings comes exactly a year after Urvil scored a 41-ball century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, marking the second-fastest List A century by an Indian, just a day after being released by Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Despite his consistent performances, Urvil went unsold as an uncapped wicketkeeper in the recent IPL 2025 mega auction, leaving cricket fans and experts questioning how such talent could be overlooked.

Urvil’s record-breaking knock not only cements his place in domestic cricket history but also puts the spotlight back on the young dynamo as one of India's most explosive hitters.
