Rishabh Pant Makes HISTORY, Becomes First Player in the World to Achieve Unprecedented Feat

Rishabh Pant Creates History as First Player to Score 2000 Runs as Wicketkeeper in World Test Championship

Rishabh Pant has etched his name in the history books by becoming the first player ever to score 2000 runs as a wicketkeeper in the World Test Championship (WTC). In the ongoing Test match against Australia, Pant scored 37 runs from 78 balls in the first innings, bringing his total to 2034 runs in the prestigious competition.

This remarkable achievement sets Pant apart from other wicketkeepers in the WTC, with England's Ollie Pope and New Zealand's Tom Latham also surpassing 2000 runs, but both having played only a few innings behind the stumps. Pope has kept wickets in just 4 innings, while Latham has done so in only 1.

Pant’s consistency and versatility as both a batsman and wicketkeeper have made him a vital asset for India in the longest format of the game. His feat of reaching 2000 runs in the WTC as a wicketkeeper showcases his exceptional skill set and cements his legacy as one of the finest wicketkeeper-batsmen in modern cricket.

Rishabh Pant made history during India's first Test against Australia in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at Optus Stadium, Perth. Pant, who scored 37 runs off 78 balls in India's first innings, surpassed 2000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC), becoming the first player ever to achieve this feat as a wicketkeeper.

With a total of 2034 WTC runs, Pant joins the elite list of players who have scored over 2000 runs in the competition. While England's Ollie Pope and New Zealand's Tom Latham also have 2000+ WTC runs, both have played limited innings as designated wicketkeepers. Pant is now the third Indian after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to reach this landmark in the WTC.
