Bitcoin Scam Allegations Rock Maharashtra Elections: BJP vs Opposition Showdown

As Maharashtra votes in its state assembly elections, a major political controversy has emerged, with the BJP accusing opposition leaders Supriya Sule of the NCP and Nana Patole of Congress of involvement in a "Bitcoin scam." The allegations revolve around claims that a 2018 cryptocurrency fraud, valued at ₹235 crore, was used to fund election campaigns. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra presented audio clips and chats purportedly featuring Sule and Patole discussing bitcoin transactions. Patra alleged that Gaurav Mehta, a cryptocurrency trader, exposed the scam due to safety concerns.

Both Sule and Patole have strongly denied the accusations, labeling them politically motivated attempts to manipulate voters. Sule called the claims "fabricated" and accused the BJP of spreading falsehoods. She has filed complaints with the Election Commission and police, asserting that the audio clips are fake. Similarly, Patole dismissed the allegations as baseless and announced legal action against BJP leaders for defamation. He questioned the authenticity of the evidence and asserted his innocence.

The controversy has heightened tensions in the election, with opposition leaders accusing the BJP of using diversionary tactics. Meanwhile, BJP insists that these allegations raise serious questions about electoral integrity. Legal proceedings and investigations are expected to follow.
